Five guys with a dream that has already taken
them around the World. Their first CD Tess is a Girls Name was hailed as one of the best CDs to come out of the Highlands.
A World tour followed that nearly ended in disaster as concerts in Jakarta had to be called off when civil war broke out
outside their hotel!
The name came from a book of folklore, but the story of Ross-shire band The Pagan Poets is pure
nineties Highland. For a start three of the bands members, drummer Tess, Gareth Ince and Campbell Goodall came out of
a take-no-prisoners metal band called Narcosis. Steve Eaglesham is the eldest of the famously musical Eaglesham brothers.
And Les Cowley is just one of the best guitar players in Scotland today.
Steve began in the heavy metal band Axis
and went on the play with several R&B bands including Yahoo and Crazy Love, where he met Les Cowley and the idea of a
Celtic rock band that would push the musical envelope was formed. Such a band would have to be able to move effortlessly from
traditional Scottish folk into heavy metal and rock and even jazz. Pagan Poets was born.
